The Assistant Director is appointed by the Director and serves at his pleasure, as do all subsequent appointments. The Assistant Director is responsible for advising the Director and for implementing his plans and vision. He is second in command to the Director and may speak on his behalf when authorized to do so.

The Assistant Director for Projects and Staff is responsible for any special activities programs at Boys State as well as being the Director’s personal liaison to the Counselor staff. He supervises the Deputy Director for Counselors and the Office Manager.



The Deputy Director for Counselors is directly responsible for the training and general behavior of all counselors. He also communicates the Directors guidance, vision, and orders to the  counselor staff.

The City Sr. Counselors are totally responsible for the supervision and operations of their assigned Boys State city of some 60+ boys. In addition to supervision of the delegates and insuring integration within the Boys State program, he is also responsible for training and supervising the city Counselors and Jr. Counselors.

The City Counselor is at the command of the City Sr. Counselor and has general day-to-day charge of all city activities. He is also responsible for the training and close supervision of the Jr. Counselors.

The City Jr. Counselors are counselors in training who have limited experience both at Boys State and in life. They are usually early college students.

The Assistant Director for Staff is responsible for coordinating the activities of the various administrative departments of Boys State. He works with each department head to communicate the Director’s wishes and vision for Boys State.

The Director of Education is responsible for coordinating all education activities including classes and assemblies. His duties include preparing class lesson plans, recommending and evaluating assembly speakers, and supervising and evaluating counselor/instructors.
